Episode 3- Kidney Stone Myths – Does Drinking More Episode 3- Kidney Stone Myths – Does Drinking More Water Dissolve Kidney Stones?

One of the biggest myths I hear is:

“Doctor, if I drink lots of water, my kidney stone will dissolve.”

Not true.

Water does not dissolve existing kidney stones. But it is the single most effective way to prevent new stones from forming and can help small stones pass more easily.

The goal isn’t just to drink “more” water—it’s to drink enough to produce at least 2–2.5 litres of urine every day.

A simple tip: Your urine should be pale yellow or almost clear most of the time.

Remember:
Water helps prevent stones.
Water doesn’t melt or dissolve stones that are already there.

If you’ve had one kidney stone, you’re at a higher risk of developing another. A proper metabolic evaluation and personalized prevention plan can make all the difference.

How much water do you drink in a day? Let me know in the comments!

Does every enlarged prostate need surgery? Not ne Does every enlarged prostate need surgery?

Not necessarily.

One of the most significant changes in BPH management over the past decade has been the move toward personalized treatment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

For selected men with bothersome urinary symptoms, Rezūm™ water vapor therapy offers a minimally invasive option that uses targeted steam to reduce obstructing prostate tissue while preserving urinary and sexual function in many patients.

Its appeal lies in:
No implants left behind
Minimal downtime
Durable symptom relief
Preservation of ejaculation in many patients
Outpatient treatment in selected cases

However, no single procedure is right for every patient.

The best treatment depends on several factors including prostate size, anatomy, symptom severity, bladder function, overall health, and patient expectations.

The future of BPH care is not about choosing the newest procedure.

It is about choosing the right procedure for the right patient at the right time.

Swipe through to learn how Rezūm is changing the treatment landscape for selected patients with enlarged prostate.

Kidney Stone Myths – Episode 2: Do Tomatoes Cause Kidney Stone Myths – Episode 2: Do Tomatoes Cause Kidney Stones?

“Doctor, should I stop eating tomatoes because I have kidney stones?”

It’s one of the most common questions I hear in my clinic.

The answer is NO—for most people.

Tomatoes contain only small amounts of oxalate and are not a proven cause of kidney stones. In fact, they’re packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and lycopene, making them a healthy addition to your diet.

The real culprits behind recurrent kidney stones are often:
1. Not drinking enough water
2. Excess salt intake
3. Too much animal protein
4. An untreated metabolic abnormality

Instead of avoiding healthy foods based on myths, get evaluated to understand why your stone formed. Prevention should be personalised and not based on hearsay.

Have you ever been told to avoid tomatoes because of kidney stones? Let me know in the comments.

A successful surgery begins before the operation i A successful surgery begins before the operation itself ✨

Before any procedure, a detailed pre-anaesthesia assessment helps ensure you’re medically fit for surgery and allows your healthcare team to plan the safest anaesthesia approach for you.

During this evaluation, factors such as your medical history, current medications, allergies, previous surgeries, and overall health are carefully reviewed to reduce potential risks and support a smoother recovery.

Being open about your medical history and following your doctor’s pre-surgery instructions can make a significant difference to your surgical experience.

Your safety is always the priority.

Kidney Stone Myths – Episode 1: The Calcium Myth Kidney Stone Myths – Episode 1: The Calcium Myth

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear in my clinic is:

“Doctor, I’ve stopped drinking milk because I had a kidney stone.”

In most cases, that’s exactly the opposite of what you should do.

Dietary calcium doesn’t usually cause kidney stones—it actually helps prevent the most common type of stone by reducing oxalate absorption in the gut.

The key is knowing the difference between calcium from food and calcium supplements, and understanding that every patient’s stone is different.

Watch this video to learn why avoiding calcium without proper evaluation could increase your risk of future stones.

Have you been told to stop consuming dairy after a kidney stone? Comment “CALCIUM” if you’ve heard this advice.
